Tim Fanning

Uillean Pipes, Flute, Whistles and Vocals

Tim has been playing Celtic music for over 20 years. He was first inspired to take up the Highland bagpipes by chance attendance at a Pogues concert in London. Since then he has been inspired to take up and master various less noisy instruments as well, including whistles, flutes and the uilleann (Irish) pipes.

An experienced performer, Tim has played around the world from Scotland to China, and he has performed with such distinguished musicians as The Chieftains and Geoffrey Kelly from Spirit of the West!. For years, Tim has been a fixture at The Irish Heather and he never tires of answering the question “what is that instument called again?”

Tim curently plays a full set of Alain Froment uilleann pipes (thanks Tom!), a Patrick Olwell wooden flute and Phil Hardy whistles.
